Photographer Malcolm Weir is based in San Francisco.
A British born, San Francisco resident, Malcolm started serious photography
documenting the quirky eccentricities that abound in the architecture of
London and Northern Europe. After a while, he realised that while the
aesthetic was pleasing, the process was dispassionate, so recognizing that
animate subjects are more fun than inanimate ones, he switched to underwater
photography, which (believe it or not) has a lot in common with fetish event
shooting -- even down to the fact of rubber being worn by some of the
participants!
The transition from fish to fetish was a natural consequence of Malcolm's
"coming out" in the mid 1990's as an active member of the Bay Area fetish
and BDSM community: what could be more natural than trying to share the
excitement of discovering a whole bunch of happy like-minded kinksters,
dressed in the very essence of one's fantasies? His lens is thus incidental
to his attendance at such scene events: he'd be there with or without the
camera, because he is a participant in this community, not just an observer
of it. Plus, as a self-identified switch, he finds images of dominance and
submission basically equally exciting!
Since his mid-1990's debut, Malcolm has covered dozens of fetish fashion and
BDSM events, including the past five Skin Two Rubber Balls in London,
parties in Europe, Texas, Florida, and a multitude of Northern and Southern
Californian events. The range of models and BDSM professionals he has
worked with is similar, reflecting people based as far afield as Europe, all
across the USA, and of course right here in California. He has been
published in "Skin Two" magazine, "Draculina", and has been commissioned for
a cover of "On Our Backs" magazine, as well as commisions for the old
"Fetish" magazine.
